Dear All,
Today I just have been through my IELTS tests. Since I have figured out so many mistakes, I have made today so without waiting for results, I am starting to improve my weak areas and preparation for retake of test.
Below I am going to highlight and point out all weak areas and mistakes committed by me in general am only writing those mistakes that are much general have been through almost 19 GB data including each and every thing published by Ryan, Simon and DC IELTS.I believe despite our preparation, our personality traits play an important role in our marks as well as our IQ and concentration.
Since the below weaknesses are general and they are observed even after consulting all type of material and working too hard so I believe providing tips to these points will help a lot of people here in general.
Since each one of us have different experience and approach so please continue to provide tips against these points even if one person has answered them.I believe many people who achieved excellent IELTS scores must have been through these problems. Please answer in number wise accordingly.
Speaking part:
1. Although I practiced much and get my speaking evaluated by many experts and tried my best to improve my habitually committed mistakes but I examination room, I was back to my previous routine. Examiner was used to listen me half and throw next question. Caused by tensions and speedy method of examiner, I made many grammatical and pronunciation mistakes that I was used to make prior to my exam preparation. My practice and hard work on my mistakes by melted like ice and I was speaking like I never prepared felt like time is very short and I have to be too fast otherwise examiner may not listen my completely and throw the next question.Otherway, I did have time to think and continue implementing all instructions that I practiced previously. What practice or measures I should take so that I present my thoughts in examination room in same way like I do in my preparation. Any exercise that is harder than actual exam?
2. Listening lost my focus many times and I did not catch up with speaker. Sometimes, accent caused some problems understanding the words but most of the time concentration was biggest issue. Second factor is that tensed movement of eyes and focus when you found that the question that you are watching is not in coherence with speaker and you fear the speaker might have more forward. That time, we search other words in tension and we miss many words spoken by examiner. In there any more hard practice to raise my level in this part? Like songs listening? Any exercise that is harder than actual exam?
3. Reading of General was ok and I may get 9 there. Key to my success is, I prepared from academic and when I went for general, it was a piece of cake for me.
4. Too less time to write PERFECTLY.I wasted around half hour in planning and I was short of time finished on time and I found all those mistakes on my paper that I was used to commit prior to my preparation but unfortunately, I had no time to corret. How to tune our self to write too fastly, natural and then even without those habitual mistakes that require thinking and need revision.
5. How to enhance your focus, particularly in stressful examination conditions?

For writing, I recommend getting your handwriting checked to make sure that it is legible - also, practise writing on paper to develop this skill for the exam - I am sure that other members can also give more tips.

5. How to enhance your focus, particularly in stressful examination conditions?
Ielts is designed to test your language ability. I believe beside practicing mock tests and developing strategies particularly for the test, you should also improve your English in general.
It seems like you get nervous and feel intimidated by the examiner, there's no other way than to be aware of this and try over come it. Maybe when you start to panic, trying to inhale and exhale for few times could help reduce your heart rate. Or thinking of a joke or something funny might help calm yourself down. I am not sure if those methods work for you, but just try.
You are right about concentration is very important in the listening test. But is it just your concentration or your listening ability in general? Can you watch English TV programs/movies without subtitles?
For writing, you should develop a habit of using proper English, even when you are not practicing for the test. Because under the pressure of the test, you will forget all about your tactics and strategies and revert to your habit. Perhaps try to correct the mistakes that you made in the post above will be helpful towards your test preparation.
Also, spending 30 minutes on planning your essay is definitely not recommended. You should practice to do this in maximum 2 minutes. Trust me that is possible!

A very helpful reply, indeed.
thanks for this.
Listening:Yes, I dont have much problem in understanding accent.I lost my focues sometimes for no reasons and sometimes when I did not find a rlation between what I am reading and what I am listening. This time, I get frustrated and search all lines ahed of me.When I get track of the right lines, by that time, I had lost some important words of speaker and I fail to recall what I just heard because My focus was on searching. Please tell me if you can recommend something here.
