Living in large cities Task 2 ( working on band 7)

Post by raghadmamd »

People who live in large cities face a range of problems in their daily life.
What are the most significant of these problems?
How can these problems be tackled?

Living in large cities is aimed by many of young people who are looking for more job opportunities, or even for a better lifestyle and more leisure. However, large cities life has many obstacles. In this essay, I will explore the most significant ones and try to propose some solutions.

One of the biggest problems in large cities is overcrowdings. It is more common for large cities to suffer from traffic jams, especially in rush hours. For example, in Egypt capital (Cairo), it is very often to be stuck in traffic gridlock in the city center. The solution for this problem is to set up a congestion charges similar to (SALIK charge) which has been applied in Dubai so that drivers who want to go certain roads in rush hours, will pay a congestion charge. This ultimately decreases the number of vehicles in these roads.

Another problem related to overcrowdings and traffic is increased pollution level. By other words, air quality has been deteriorated dramatically in many of the large cities, which is a predicted consequence to urbanization. Also, the noise level can be considered as a source of auditory pollution. To tackle this problem, the government should invest more money in public transport to improve its infrastructure and cleaning, so as to encourage more people to use it.

One more important problem is the increase of the cost of living in urban cities. This may be due to high prices of properties, which lead to that most of the young workers are priced out of housing market. The way forward might be to the government encouraging more investment in affordable housing to help more young adults to make their ends meet. Similarly, costs of going out in large cities are getting higher, like restaurants and pubs, which make it difficult for families to enjoy and cheer up. The solution may be in emphasis on getting more green areas and leisure facilities.

To sum up, living in large cities has its own charm. Although many problems are there like overcrowdings, pollution and the increase in costs of living, urgent actions can be taken to overcome them.
