Essay topics: Many childhood diseases can now be prevented through the use of vaccines.
Should parents be made by law to immunize their children against common diseases or should individuals have the right to choose not to immunize their children?
There is an argument that the guardians should have the authority over the decision of vaccinating their offspring as the child belongs to them and that they should not be legally indeed. However, I completely disagree with this opinion for two reasons,
First of all, lack of knowledge regarding medicines or carelessness might cost an individual a permenant disability and even death. Take third world countries like Ethiopia, for example, where the literacy rates are quite low and so limited awareness of health advancement is present. Without medical knowledge, they could not comprehend the importance of immunisation from critical diseases nor world they understand the negativity of various illness. This ignorance might cost innocent infants serious medical complexity leading to lifelong physical handicapcy which might even become a precursor of early death. Therefore, lack of health knowledge would be fatal and so government should step in this matter.
Secondly, parents’ individual decision does not just effects a single family, infact it impacts the populations around the world. Gradually, scientists and researchers are trying to eradicate dangerous illnesses from the world by discovering new remedies and preventions. But if these immunization technique are not applied globally eradicating illnesses will become impossible as diseases from few individuals will regenerate dangerous bacterias. Although, it is true that parents have the right for the well being of their offspring, but it is also true that negligence from few people should not be suffered by the masses globally.
In conclusion, while undoubtedly carers should have choice over their children’s well being, it is imperative that these step should not hamper the child’s health nor should harm the populations around the world. Thus, I strongly recommend that strict laws should be made to enforce the responsible to vaccine their young ones.
