Hi guys, below i post my essay answering this topic:
It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this option?
What sort of punishment should parent and teachers be allowed to use to teach good behaviour to children?
It is undoubted that kids must differentiate what is right and is not, so, in order to achieve this, some people claim that is necessary the use of punishment as a teaching method. I agree this view, as long as the use of punishment its limited and regulated.
To begin, children at an early stage are discovering the word, so they want to do things, whereas these are good or bad, for this reason is important that the people who are under their care, teach them through explanations why is it good or not, and if is the case to punish them through activities or actions which help them to understand. Being in a young age will give them the option to adapt this new behaves, new concepts to their life.
Furthermore, when a child something and get punish for that, generally they will associate this situation and with that unpleasant consequences, as a result they wont to that again. To put it in other way, when a kid draws in the walls and because of that, they get time out or they can’t watch T.V, later if they want to do the same, they will know that is bad and won’t do it again. As a human we react according to our experiences, that is the reason that laws which punish wrong actions. This is a mechanism for teaching and its necessary in more of the cases to learn a lesson.
Teachers, parents or anyone who are in charge of their education, have the responsibility to help them in the education not just in the academics, also as person. Communication is the key in this process, but if this is enough, other measures can be useful, for instance, not allowing the use of mobiles, ipads, internet, or restrict some the leisure time, house cleaning, will help them to be responsible for what they, knowing that every action have a consequence and it just depends of them if is positive or not. These are a way to punish something wrong, but it is important for people who in charge of the children to understand that punishment cannot lead to an abuse, everyone should be aware of this, and for prevent that happened the constant supervision for the authorities is necessary.
All in all, teaching the kids through actions that can be consider as a punishment are necessary because if a child grow up without limits, values, with lack of respect for others and the law, in the futures that child will be an adult who will affect the others and the society. However, it is important to know that when we are talking about children, their welfare is the most important, so any kind of action that physically and emotionally affect them should not be allowed
I would really appreciate if you guy can help me with a feedback of this. Thanks
