IELTS Task 2: Improve public health = Increasing sports facilities?

Post by caotungnam »

"Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, day that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required.Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience."

In many recent years, the controversy about which way is the most effective to improve public health still does not reach an end. While some people argue that the best method for the improvements of public health is by equipping people with more sports facilities, I suppose that this idea will lead to some effects which shows the needs of other measures.

With increased sports facilities, without doubt, people will stand a better chance to do physical activities. Such a busy life drives people not to spend time sufficiently on sports and exercises. Once there are more sports facilities that are equipped in public places such as parks or squares, people will be able to have more approach to sports. That means they can play sports or do some exercises when they are even in short breaks between workshifts.

This method, however, brings about some unexpected results. Because the usage of sports facilities is regularly coupled with the guides of sports professionals, not all the sports facilities that are provided with people in that case will stand them in good stead. Some facilities, for example, are recommended not for children who probably get injured using these kinds of facilities. As a result, there will be a risk of the inreased number of accidents, particularly for children if these facilities are on the rise.

Increasing the number of sports facilities is a good way to improve public health, but not the best one. Other measures which should be involved with this method is that only a limited number of sorts of sports facilities are raised, or some regulations that clarify which age groups are appropriate for the specified facilities. By doing this, the safety for people, especially for children, will be guaranteed in all potential situtations.

In conclusion, increasing the number of sports facilities will help people to improve health. Nevertheless, this method ought to be weighed and regulated carefully before being put into action.

Hello!

Mainly, I think that you need to look at other ways of keeping fit and healthy. In addition, I am not sure about the suggestion that there will be mass-injuries. Sport generally is not that dangerous!

Vocabulary is good on the topic of exercise. Grammar is also good, but the range of structures is not great. For example, there is quite a lot of 'will' and not much 'if'.

All the best,
David
